Davis & Floyd created a site master plan and construction documents for The Babcock as part of The BullStreet District Redevelopment in Columbia, SC. The Babcock originally served as the state’s psychiatric hospital constructed in 1885. We worked with the developer and architect to develop buildings and grounds into high-end condos and apartments with a pool and other recreational amenities.
Recognizing it was critical to respect the historical and cultural significance of this project, we conducted ample research and due diligence prior to design. After completing our due diligence, we worked closely with the architect to ensure critical features of the building were highlighted and emphasized.
We considered the many historic oak trees on site when determining site layout and circulation. We carefully selected amenity locations and materials based on the historical nature of the project while fulfilling the needs of future tenants.
