S-31 (York Street) Dual Bridge Replacement
After completing routine bridge inspections on the S-31 (York Street) northbound and southbound bridges over the Norfolk Southern Railway, SCDOT determined that both bridges were structurally deficient and needed to be replaced.
SCDOT commissioned Davis & Floyd for this dual-bridge replacement project. We worked closely with both the residents and representatives of the City of Aiken to maintain and incorporate the unique historical infrastructure characteristics of the existing wooden bridges into the new design.
This project was awarded the 2018 ACEC-SC Engineering Excellence Award (Structural Systems category) for the innovative engineering solutions developed by the Davis & Floyd design team and implemented by SCDOT.
