Palmetto Commerce Interchange

The Palmetto Commerce Interchange project is a Charleston County-led effort intended to improve travel times, access options, and mobility along a rapidly growing portion of the I-26 corridor.

The project will ultimately result in a new interchange on I-26 between US 78 (University Boulevard) and Ashley Phosphate Road, which will provide a connection to Palmetto Commerce Parkway, Weber Boulevard, and Ingleside Boulevard. The new link, which will include approximately 0.5 miles of four-lane road, will relieve major traffic congestion along these heavily traveled roads and an extremely busy segment of I-26. The Urban Diamond Interchange is the preferred alternative.

The Environmental Assessment (EA) and Interchange Justification Report (IJR) were submitted to SCDOT and FHWA and are awaiting final comments. A public meeting took place. We are providing project management for this project and are responsible for delivering approved environmental documents to Charleston County. In addition to the environmental services and interchange design, we have completed the 30% roadway and bridge design and are providing utility coordination, ROW acquisition services, surveying, and landscape architecture.
