North Charleston Transit Center
CARTA and the City of North Charleston enlisted Davis & Floyd to provide program management, architecture, landscape architecture, surveying, and civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering services for the North Charleston Transit Center. The new building is located on the site of the former Amtrak train station in North Charleston, SC. The facility is used by several agencies, which include CARTA, Amtrak, and Southeastern Stages. Davis & Floyd maintained the station’s operational capacity throughout the project to avoid disrupting vital transportation services to the area.
Davis & Floyd designed the new building, parking lot, and train platform, constructed on the original train station site, while the existing facility remained fully operational during construction. The team developed design solutions for multi-agency use of the facility; mitigated conflicts with new and existing utilities; and worked with two existing rail lines, which remained in use during construction.
