This time for our D|F Benchmark Series we talk with Erica Wilson, MBA: AR/AP Coordinator at our Greenwood branch.

Professional Questions:

1. What is your favorite part of working at D|F?

My favorite parts of working at D|F are the people and the atmosphere. They really make my job great, and I love coming to work every day because of it. We all feel like one big family, even though we’re spread across 6 offices.

2. What is one thing that surprised you about your current role?

One thing that surprised me about my current role was how much communication is involved. After stepping into the AR/AP coordinator role full-time following the Andrews Engineering acquisition, I quickly realized how much coordination is required between clients, vendors, and project managers. A large part of my job is maintaining communication, following up on tasks, and making sure everyone stays aligned throughout the process.

3. What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

I wish people knew how much coordination and communication goes into the billing and payment process. There is a process behind everything, and it depends on everyone completing their tasks in a timely manner. For example, when a vendor submits an invoice, it must go through an approval process that includes review and sign-off from the project manager before moving through our system. My role is to keep that process moving smoothly.

4. What are you most proud of in your career so far?

I am most proud of earning my MBA and being able to apply the skills and knowledge I gained to my work at Davis & Floyd. It has helped me contribute in meaningful ways and continue growing professionally.

5. What’s unique about your team/sector?

Our team is very close-knit, since we are all located in the same office. This allows us to support the firms’ daily operations that help keep Davis & Floyd running like a well-oiled machine. From project set-up and financial management to payroll and reporting, we help D|F operate efficiently.

6. What is the most interesting project you have worked on with D|F?

The most interesting project I have worked on at Davis & Floyd is a project in Dorchester County. It stands out as one of the most memorable and rewarding projects of my career. The project required us to completely rethink our accounting and billing processes to align with the client’s needs. It was a true team effort, and together we developed a seamless process that continues to support the project’s success.

7. What are your goals for the next few months/years?

One of my goals is to continue improving and streamlining financial processes across the company. Last year, I helped develop a new credit card policy and I would like to build on that experience by identifying additional opportunities for improvement within the company.

1. What is one thing people do not know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

I have 22 farm birds! 3 turkeys, 12 chickens, and 7 ducks.

2. What is a personal accomplishment you are proud of?

Buying my first home with my husband last year!

3. What is a piece of advice or lesson that has stuck with you throughout your life?

From my grandpa: “Always be an honest person and do the right thing, and you’ll end up reaping the benefits.”

4. What is one hobby or interest you are passionate about?

Traveling. My favorite place I’ve visited has been Kenya, Africa.
