Davis & Floyd provided the Preliminary Engineering Report, design, permitting, bidding services, construction administration, full-time on-site representation, startup assistance, and operations and maintenance manual for the new water treatment plant with an initial production capacity of 4 MGD, expandable to 6 MGD. The team coordinated with Harper Corporation, the general contractor, on this design-bid-build project. The City of Sumter now has the ability to provide water service to industrial customers and sites in the US 521 corridor, southeast of the City, as well as meet current and future water demands.
The design included induced draft aeration for iron removal; settling basins; high rate dual media gravity filtration; disinfection, corrosion, and fluoride chemical addition; clearwell storage and high service pumping; and backwash settling basins for recycling water back to the plant intake for sustainability and energy efficiency.
