Davis & Floyd Recognized for Our Engineering Excellence

The American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) is a member collective that sponsors the Engineering Excellence Awards each year in order to recognize the Top Leaders in our industry and to highlight original or innovative projects across our great state.

Davis & Floyd was named ACEC finalist, one of the top six coveted awards in the competition. A distinguished panel of judges reviewed many entries from member firms to determine which firms would receive the prestigious Engineering Excellence Awards for 2020. We’re thankful to receive the award this year for our work with the City of Sumter.

I’m so proud of our team for their commitment to upholding the standards of engineering excellence that my father, Emmett I. Davis, Jr., built our company on over 65 years ago. And I couldn’t be more excited about our future as a company.

We’ve worked alongside the City of Sumter for many years, engineering solutions that support infrastructure growth, as well as economic expansion. When they needed a new water plant to tackle the city’s growing needs, they looked to us to design a sustainable, energy-efficient solution.

For this expansive $19 million project, our firm provided the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER)project managementsurveyingdesignpermitting oversightbidding servicesconstruction administrationfull-time, on-site representationstart-up assistance; and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manual.

We’re excited to announce an important change to our leadership team!

John Redfern, Jr., CPA, CFO, & Vice President of Accounting, who has been essential at Davis & Floyd for the past 31 years, has announced his retirement. John played an integral role in the overall growth of Davis & Floyd alongside Emmett Davis, Jr. by developing key accounting systems and providing leadership recruitment and development.

We will miss him tremendously and will forever be grateful for the undeniable impact he has had on our company. We know he will enjoy trading accounting spreadsheets for fishing, the great outdoors, and quality time with his wife, Taina, and their growing number of grandchildren. We wish him the absolute best!

Travis Smith, CPA/PFS, has been promoted to fill John’s position as the new CFO for Davis & Floyd. Travis started here in 2017 and has a bachelor’s degree in business from The Citadel and a Master of Accountancy from Clemson University.

He brings 18 years of accounting, financial, and tax experience to our firm. We look forward to Travis’ leadership as we navigate new strategic endeavors.
