Capabilities
Established in 1965 in Greenwood, SC, our 7,500 SF Environmental Laboratory
facility is considered to
be one of the leading laboratory groups in the Southeast. We are highly regarded for the quality of work produced and provide
data that
is routinely used as the basis for decisions in legal actions. We operate a commercial laboratory that has worked
under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Contract Laboratory
Protocol (CLP) Program. The laboratory operated under two separate contracts
to EPA for approximately five years to provide analysis of samples from
EPA Superfund sites. The use of CLP insures quality results that can
be defended, as necessary, in litigation. Proper quality control
procedures are utilized throughout the laboratory and sampling programs insure accurate and reliable data.
As one of the best-equipped laboratories in the Southeast,
our lab maintains state-of-the-art instrumentation for all types of analysis.
Sophisticated computer controlled instrument analysis insures consistent
and reliable data. We have a full range of capabilities in performing environmental
analysis under various programs including:
• Clean Water Act
• Safe Drinking Water Act
• Solid and Hazardous Waste
The analyses often performed include, but are not limited to, the following:
• GC/MS Organics such as Priority Pollutants, TTO’s and
TCL’s
• GC Organics such as Pesticides, PCB’s and Herbicides
• Metals by AA, AAGF and ICP
• TOC
• TOX
• Wet Chemistry including automated analysis – IC and
LACHAT
• Microbiology – Coliform (Total and Fecal) and Enterococcus
• Treatabilty testing – BODx and Zahn-Wellens
We also operate a mobile laboratory for on-site
studies and investigations. This laboratory is fully self-contained
with on-board propane fired generators, a laboratory pure water generation
system that includes reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and dechlorination
units to handle all types of raw water sources. The laboratory has fume hoods and vents to allow for the installation and utilization
of TOC, TOX, IC, GC, GC/MS, AA, ICP and other instrumentation for full
organic and inorganic capabilities. Our mobile laboratory can be equipped
to met the needs of a specific project.
Field Sample Collection
We provide a complete array of field sampling
services including collection of groundwater, water, wastewater, and
hazardous waste samples, soil sampling, ambient air sampling, stack
emission sampling, etc.
We have considerable experience in all of these
areas, having provided such services for over 40 years. Sample collection
is the most likely point at which contamination of a sample can occur.
Proper training and equipment are necessary to avoid such contamination.
Our field sampling teams are equipped with the most modern equipment
to allow for proper sample collection. Our personnel is well-trained
in appropriate methods for collecting samples in all situations.
Biological Monitoring
Having a highly qualified and well-equipped biological
monitoring laboratory, we are capable of performing all types of biological
analyses and toxicity tests. We are fully certified to conduct these
tests by the various state environmental regulatory agencies in which
we operate. Our staff of toxicologists and/or biologists has been involved
in a number of tasks related to biological monitoring and/or toxicity
testing.
The following is an abbreviated listing of a number of the activities.
• Acute Toxicity with Ceriodaphnia dubia
• Acute Pass/Fail Toxicity with Ceriodaphnia dubia
• Chronic Toxicity with Ceriodaphnia dubia
• Chronic Pass/Fail Toxicity with Ceriodaphnia dubia
• Static Bioassay with Blue Gill Minnows
• Static Bioassay with Flat Head Minnows
• Hour Static Toxicity with Mysidopsis babia
• Qualitative Benthic Macroinvertebrate Investigations
• Fish Studies
• Periphyton Studies
• Plankton/Phytoplankton Studies
• Toxicity Test Screening with MicroTox
