Knowledge of the location and condition of asbestos containing materials (ACM) is of vital importance to employers, building owners, and property managers as they attempt to manage the potential liabilities posed by asbestos. In fact, OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.1001) require that employers and building owners identify and document the presence, location, and quantity of all ACM or presumed ACM within their building. This regulation applies to all buildings with potential occupational exposures to asbestos, and includes such buildings as department stores, office buildings, industrial facilities, shops, etc.

Our staff has an extensive background in asbestos-related projects. All of the individuals associated with our asbestos abatement design team have received EPA-accredited training and are thoroughly familiar with the requirements of asbestos management. More importantly, these individuals have conducted thousands of surveys and abatement designs, allowing them to gain from experience that cannot be taught in asbestos-training schools. This enables these individuals to recognize all potential ACM, thereby providing complete and cost effective asbestos projects and avoiding costly litigation.

Services

All of our asbestos management personnel are in-house. Services that we provide relative to asbestos include:

  • Building Inspections
  • Collection and Analysis of Bulk Samples
  • Collection and Analysis of Air Samples
  • Hazard Assessments
  • Survey Reports
  • Cost Estimating
  • Remedial Action Plans Operation and Maintenance Plans
  • Preparation of Abatement Plans and Specifications
  • Services During Construction
  • Seminar Presentation
  • Employee Awareness Training
  • Assistance with Public Relations
  • Awareness Training for Building Occupants

We have a fully equipped environmental laboratory that has performed contract laboratory work for the US Environmental Protection Agency. This laboratory has full accreditation for Bulk Asbestos Analysis by PLM from the United States Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP LAB CODE: 101410-0).

Experience

Through our years of asbestos related projects, we have developed a permanent in-house Asbestos Abatement Design Team that has worked together on numerous complex asbestos abatement projects. Our asbestos related experience is vast, dating back to the late 1970's. Our team includes all of the necessary disciplines required for a complete asbestos project, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering; architectural specialists; chemists; biologists; and industrial hygienists, all of whom have been found necessary for a well-balanced and complete asbestos program. This team, as a group and as individual members, has been involved in many asbestos abatement projects of varying size and complexity.

We have completed asbestos projects in the following types of facilities:

  • Airports
  • Banks
  • Churches
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Courthouses
  • Dormitories
  • Gymnasiums
  • Hangars
  • Hospitals
  • Industrial Buildings
  • Libraries
  • Museums
  • Office Buildings
  • Power Plants
  • Schools
  • Ships
  • Shopping Centers
  • Warehouses

Asbestos Management

Management of asbestos in buildings is quite often the safest and most cost effective way to deal with asbestos. This approach obviously begins with a thorough building inspection to locate all asbestos containing materials and conduct a hazard assessment of these materials. Following the survey and assessment of these materials, we prepare an asbestos management plan which instructs the building owner and occupants in appropriate ways to deal with the asbestos. The locations of the ACM are identified in the plan along with appropriate procedures for maintenance, repair, and routine housekeeping in the building. Appropriate personnel protection procedures are discussed along with routine inspection and maintenance of the ACM. We can also provide required asbestos awareness training for building occupants and custodial personnel.

Design of Asbestos Abatement Projects

Responsible for the design of many large and complex asbestos abatement projects, we have prepared abatement designs for a variety of types of buildings. Our abatement designs include those as simple as small buildings slated for demolition to more complex projects such as asbestos abatement in an occupied multi-story college dormitory or office building, or an operating power plant. Design of such projects requires a thorough understanding of asbestos as well as overall building construction techniques since removal of asbestos containing materials must take into consideration how the ACM was installed and for what purpose. Asbestos was a very versatile product used for many purposes, including insulation, acoustic control, as a binder in various products, etc. Our staff understands the previous uses of asbestos and is knowledgeable in the types of products that can be used to replace the asbestos. As a part of a complete asbestos abatement design, our staff of engineers and architects specify replacement materials. Many times, an asbestos abatement project is a good time to consider renovation and/or remodeling of a space since so many of the building components will be disturbed to remove the asbestos. Our staff is experienced in such renovation projects and can provide a cost effective approach to a combined asbestos removal/renovation project.
