Industrial work requires close collaboration among several engineering disciplines to manage the complex systems needed for industrial operations and building design.
Davis & Floyd’s unique ability to perform all building engineering provides the client with a single source for design services and high degree of coordination. In addition to manufacturing facilities, Davis & Floyd’s experience also includes light and heavy industrial plants. Our design of industrial facilities involves an array of building systems, including tilt-up concrete, pre-engineered buildings, modular precast, and conventional concrete and steel structures.
Our architects and engineers develop a detailed code analysis, especially when hazardous materials are part of the industrial process or stored within the facility. This code review will determine if the building must be compartmentalized by fire walls to separate functions such as manufacturing, storage, and offices. This review will also set the required clear distances between buildings on the site. We will develop buildings and locate them on the site for maximum flexibility and future expansion. Davis & Floyd works closely with owners to coordinate the required interior clearances for overhead cranes and associated equipment. Having successfully designed facilities that achieved “FM” certification, we recognize that careful planning at the initial phase is important in creating a building layout and structure that allows for future expansion. Roof structures should be carefully planned for FM compliance and wind uplift. Seismic design standards will be incorporated into the building. The added loads of crane and hoists on the building structure and floor are also important design considerations.
